Born on Shivaratri (February 28th) of 1938 in Bangalore, India, Vishwanath studied and worked in Bangalore. He is a Post graduate in Science ( Botany MSc) with B.Ed. He was the principal of a famous higher secondary school in Bangalore. He has a diploma in educational theater, curriculum guide preparation, red cross, science experiment, library science and audio visual education.

Sampatur Vishwanath thought Drama, English, Kannada, Chemistry and Biology to classes eight to eleven from 1960 to 1966 and spends most of his time in reading and writing.

He started writing in 1966 and is continuing even today. He prefers writing for children and young adults. Up to date 106 books and 2800 Articles have been printed in all dailies and periodicals of Karnataka. He has written, acted and produced many plays for school, radio and TV. Many of his students are occupying high positions and respect him even today.

He has won the Best teacher's award of the state twice (1983 & 1995); Karnataka Sahitya Academy Book Award, Balasahitya Academy Award, Kemgegowda Award, Goruru Literary Award and many others.

Educating the economically weak students is his passion. His simple and straight forward nature has endeared him to one and all.
